Male/Female College Enrollment
Continuing recent trends, females from the high school class of 2011 were expected to enroll in college in larger numbers than their male counterparts. The College Board collaborated with the National Student Clearinghouse to report this demographic breakdown based on students who took the SAT. Georgia was above the national average of 52.3 percent with 54.1 percent of the state's college bound students reported as female. Among the benchmark states, females accounted for more than half of the college bound students in all cases. However, there were slight variations. Massachusetts reported the lowest percentage of females among its new college bound students 52.4 percent, while California reported the highest at 55.1 percent.
