~ Athens has experienced significant growth, with a relatively high population density and strong economic showings. This growth is expected to continue of the next three years.

~ As with most of the state, Education and Healthcare are the dominate areas for employment in the Athens area. Athens is home to the University of Georgia (UGA), which, while being one of the largest employers in the area, also helps to support many smaller firms providing services for the university, such as tools for educational and research needs. Because of UGS’s presence, employment in Athens is also dependent on the Retail Trade, Accommodation and Food Services.

~ Though both Healthcare and Education gains rated higher than the national over the last decade, Healthcare rated higher for jobs in Athens. The area is known regionally for its treatment centers and hospitals.
